World’s Largest Chile Pepper in Las Cruces: A Spicy Attraction for Tourists

Las Cruces Directory

If you’re ever in Las Cruces, New Mexico, you won’t want to miss the chance to see the World’s Largest Chile Pepper. This iconic and unique attraction is a concrete structure measuring 47 feet long and 2.5 tons in weight, located at the Big Chile Inn. The motel’s proprietors built it between 2010 and 2011 with the hope that it would draw tourists to their area and give Las Cruces a distinct character, as the chile pepper is New Mexico’s favorite.

This fiery masterpiece has earned its place in the record books and welcomes Scoville heat unit obsessed tourists to the Big Chile Inn. The 47-foot chile pepper sculpture is hard to miss, and it’s designed to entice travelers to notice this hotel rather than the ones lacking giant chiles. It’s not just a sculpture, but a symbol of the region’s love for chile peppers and the unique culture that comes with it.

History and Significance

Origins and Construction

Be amazed by the World’s Largest Chile Pepper Sculpture. This visionary creation was built by an Australian engineer named David Girle, who used two-and-a-half tons of concrete to construct the 47-foot Chile Behemoth. Girle had friends in the Disney scene, and together they imagined this iconic monument that is now a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the area.

World Records and Recognition

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the World’s Largest Chile Pepper Sculpture as the largest of its kind in the world. It has become a symbol of New Mexico’s love for its distinct character and New Mexico’s favorite crop, the New Mexican chiles.

It is located at the Big Chile Inn, where the motel’s proprietors built it between 2010 and 2011 with the hope of drawing tourists to their area. The sculpture has been recognized by the World Record Academy, which awarded it the world record for the largest Chile Pepper sculpture.
