About

This 20-foot tall sculpture of the New Mexico state bird was built in 1993 by local artist Olin Calk and is constructed entirely of recycled trash from the Las Cruces Recycling Center. To highlight our consumption patterns, the value of recycling, and how much waste we put in landfills, this huge Roadrunner first stood near the Las Cruces Foothills Landfill. The enormous bird was subsequently moved to an I-10 rest stop west of Las Cruces. The sculpture is 20 feet tall and made out of repurposed materials like cell phones, bicycle components, and old shoes.

Where is the giant roadrunner sculpture located?
It is located at the rest area just west of Las Cruces
