Restaurant Review: El Vagon Tacos

Small building with dark gray brick exterior, red-tiled roof, and a mural of a green cactus. A colorful strip adorns the upper left wall. El Vagon Tacos offers delicious fare and the surrounding area appears to be a paved parking lot—perfect for easy access when picking up your taco fix.

We have been searching for the best Birria Tacos in Las Cruces and posted in a local FB group to get recommendations. El Vagon was highly recommended by a number of people. Honestly we had never heard of El Vagon. Guess it just never made it on our radar but that has all changed now!

It’s the first impressions that make the difference. Things like a friendly welcoming, friendly and helpful wait staff, cleanliness and decor etc. I can tell you from the minute we walked in the door we were impressed.

A colorful taco restaurant, El Vagon Tacos, boasts a vibrant interior with striking wall art and a neon sign reading "Eat More Tacos." There’s a TV, wooden paneling, and orange chairs around small tables adorned with remnants of delicious tacos—a perfect spot for your next restaurant review.

El Vagon is a small place but bustling with activity between the drive-thru window, to go orders and the dining room. I am only guessing that it seats about 30 people at one time inside.

A door with a painted skull featuring a crown and colorful designs adds character to El Vagon Tacos. A neon "Restroom" sign glows above, chairs rest on the left, and a partial mural and restroom sign are visible on the right, hinting at more eclectic decor inside this delightful restaurant.

The decor is welcoming with many cute signs with a postive message. Very refreshing. My photos only captured a small number of them.

A restaurant table with a basket of chips and dip, a holder with sauces and napkins, and a blue glass of water with a slice of lime. Tacos are served on vibrant plates, complementing the colorful cushions in the background.

Right after we set down they brought us Chips and Salsa. They serve Blue Corn chips and not the typical salsa that you get at most local restaurants. It wasn’t very spicy but it was very tasty. Then instead of us having to ask for napkins or salt/pepper they brought this cute little very clean try tray with all of the goodies including some additional sauces. Again those we very tasty but not very spicy so if you like it more mild this is perfect. I didn’t ask for anything with more kick but sure they would have something for you.

A tray of El Vagon Tacos showcases perfectly seasoned shredded meat, topped with chopped onions and cilantro, accompanied by a fresh slice of lime and a side of dipping sauce. Restaurant Review: These tacos are a flavorful delight for any taco enthusiast!

Okay now to the good stuff. We visited El Vagon specifically to try their Quesa Birria Tacos. When the plate came we noticed these were the street taco size tortillas and my first thought was these are really small. But looks can be deceptive and they certainly were in this case cause I could not have eaten all 4 of these. They were so full of yummy tasty soft melt in your mouth birria that you had to take your time to eat them.

The flavors were pleasing with the consume to dip them in….. we had them bring us a spoon so we could really not miss soaking the next bite. The cilantro, red onions and lime finished off the the taste bud explosion. Honestly I have only had birria tacos at a restaurant a few times but have made our version at home and just fell in love with these yummy tacos. We will definitely be going back to El Vagon Tacos for their Quesa Birria Tacos.

Our waitress encouraged us to try their Birria Ramen as it is a very popular item on their menu. Plus that have much more on their menu but I may never get tired of these birria tacos  🌮  to try anything else they are that good 🙂. They also specialize in events and take out. They have a large 12 or 28 tacos take out box that looks awesome.

I am not a professional food reviewer so I am sure that others could have done a better job with this review. My specialty is enjoying good food and I love my tacos 🌮 and love sharing about the places that I find. I hope that you go and experience El Vagon tacos soon.

I am on a quest to find the best birria tacos in Las Cruces so expect more reviews like this one.
