2020 Jazz/Big Band Series
SuperSax New Mexico is a re-creation of the Grammy-winning Supersax ensemble formed in 1972 by saxophonist-arranger-bandleader-actor Med Flory and bassist Buddy Clark. Their group of 5 saxes, rhythm section and a brass instrument played harmonized arrangements from a lifetime of Charlie Parker’s recorded improvised solos. One of the most dynamic arrangers on the New York and Los Angeles scene, Flory’s charts were described as “pure rocket fuel” and his gift for assembling just the right swingers was well known. Now more than 40 years later, using the original Med Flory charts, SuperSax New Mexico take on this challenging and beautiful music, performing favorites like “Salt Peanuts”, “Be-Bop”, “Just Friends” and “Lover Man” and many more. SuperSax New Mexico is Alex Murzyn and Scott Jacobsen alto sax; Aaron Lovato and Lee Taylor tenor sax; Glenn Kostur baritone sax. The rhythm section is Bert Dalton piano; Colin Deuble bass and Cal Haines drums/leader. The featured trumpet soloist is Bobby Shew. Prepare for a mind-blowing and heart-racing musical experience.
